Pano Koufonisi (upper) is a small island with a population of 300 people permanent residents.

It has one small town at the port and 4-5 wonderful beaches on the south side of the island.

 

The Port is a small town with a few touristic shops and restaurants. A pleasant stroll through the village can be done in the space of half hour but there are plenty of coffee shops/bars

with scenic views to hang out in and take in the beauty of a sunset.

 

Pori is the most famous beach of the island for its wonderful caves on one side

and protected little bay on the other with vibrant blue/green/turquise waters.

It has a couple of restaurants and a delightful beach. 

 

No cars or motorcycles to rent on this island

but you can rent bicycles and all the smaller dirt roads are rocky.

 

There is no real culture here, no local fishermen picking up their nets, no farms,

no local art trade, it is simply a beautiful spot to vacation in.

 

Kato (lower) Koufonisi is not residential other than 7 houses that were build before it was created as a protected area. It has one taverna (restaurant), a church (like every sizeable rock/island in Greece

and some lovely beaches. It has a hippie feel to it and quite a few campers that hang out there

all summer. There are sea taxis that will transfer people back and forth

a few times a day and recommend it as a day excursion.
